Born March 30th, 1853, Vincent Van Gogh created some 900 paintings in addition to 1,100 sketches, a large number of which were conceived within the last 10 years of his life. Deteriorating psychological illness, Van Gogh shot himself, dying 2 days afterwards on July 29, 1890. His art work lives on, as does his tale. Five points to note in relation to this fantastic personality are found below.

1. It was throughout a period of time where he was preaching to excavation laborers to obtain no salary which Van Gogh begun to create charcoal drawings. Throughout 1880, upon the recommendations of his brother Theo, he took up painting in earnest. There was a short period of time throughout this time where by Van Gogh took lessons from Anton Mauve at The Hague.

2. Van Gogh attempted study with the art academy of Antwerp, Belgium. He was basically terminated soon after only a few brief months. It was throughout this time having said that, that he encountered an appreciation for Japanese art, and he in fact started a series in earnest, appreciating the vibrant colors and utilization of space.

3. Van Gogh was only known to have sold one painting in the course of his lifetime. Painted in 1888, "The Red Vineyard" is now on showcase in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow Russia.

4. Vincent Van Gogh and his brother Theo had been the most effective of friends, whose connection is well documented in a collection of letters that had been revealed around 1914.

5. To this very day, the legend of Van Gogh thrives on. March 30, 1987 at a well renowned New York auction home, his painting "Irises", purchased for a record setting $53.9 million. In 1990 he shattered the records for a second time when his "Portrait of Doctor Gachet", ended up selling by way of Christie's for a monstrous $82.5 million dollars.

Little recognized or appreciated throughout his life-time, Vincent Van Gogh's influence on twentieth century art could be far reaching. Simply because he had no children of his own, Van Gogh considered his works his children. Without a doubt, he would be proud of how they've carried on his name.
